Jacob Young was born on 2 February 1993 in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire. Young was educated at Macmillan Academy, Redcar and Cleveland College, and the TTE Technical Institute. He joined the Conservative Party while pursuing studies in chemical engineering at Teesside University. After tertiary studies, he was employed as an apprentice technician and a process operator for Chemoxy International Ltd.
In his political career, Young lost twice in the 2015 general elections and 2017 elections. He was selected as the MP for Redcar at the 2019 general elections on 11 November with a majority win. He is the first Conservative MP to represent the Redcar constituency.

Jacob Young won 18,811 votes out of a possible 40,842. This represents a 46.1% share and a 3,527 majority in his constituency. There was a voter turnout of 62%.
