Rand Paul, the United States Senator from Kentucky, has been a staunch opponent of mandatory COVID vaccines. Rand is not alone in his beliefs, as many people refuse to vaccinate themselves or their children due to fear that it will cause autism.
Anti-vaccine sentiment has been around for some time and continues today with no sign of slowing down. This post explores why Rand Paul refuses the COVID vaccine and what you can do about it!
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) refused to get the COVID-19 vaccine, pointing out that it’s a “free country where each individual would get the chance to make their own decision,” even though he drew national attention in February with an animated rant about how gender-affirming health care should be banned for minors.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend individuals who had previously been affected by COVID-19 should still be vaccinated because there is not a set timetable for natural immunity.
Rand Paul said that until he gets more evidence on the effectiveness of vaccines over natural immunity, he will skip out on getting immunization shots.
When administering the COVID vaccine, Rand Paul insists that they provide him with evidence of individuals who have died or been hospitalized because of the sickness. Evidence is not provided, and so he refuses to be vaccinated.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of infectious diseases at the NIH, knows that refusing COVID vaccines is a dangerous decision.
“Vaccines, actually, at least concerning SARS-CoV-2 [the coronavirus] can do better than nature,” he said. “Vaccination in people previously infected significantly boosts the immune response.”
Paul has repeatedly clashed with Fauci over the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In November, Rand Paul accused Anthony Fauci of “glossing over” research about the immunity of COVID-19.
“Dr. Fauci is like ‘oh, woe is me,’ until the election occurs, and now he might have to change his attitude,”
Sen. Rand Paul said he would not take the COVID-19 vaccine, but Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell endorsed Dr. Fauci and encouraged people to get vaccinated.
In the interview, Paul said that people who had contracted COVID-19 and recovered did not need to wear masks.”
Senator Rand Paul refused to take the COVID vaccine, stating that there are 11 million people in America who already have it.
We should tell them to throw away their masks, go to restaurants, live again, because these people are now immune.”
Speaking to WABC 770, Sen. Rand Paul said the COVID-19 vaccine is a personal decision that should not be compulsory.
“In a free country, you would think people would honor the idea that each individual would get to make the medical decision, that it wouldn’t be a big brother coming to tell me what I have to do,” he said.
“Are they also going to tell me I can’t have a cheeseburger for lunch? Are they going to tell me that I have to eat carrots only and cut my calories?”
He added: “All that would probably be good for me, but I don’t think big brother ought to tell me to do it.”
Paul’s comments at the US look to increase the numbers of vaccinated individuals after the initial.
According to the CDC, 61.1% of adults received at least one vaccination; 49.2% are now fully vaccinated.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 589,000 people have died in the US, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
Responsibility of People In Office
The danger of people who hold positions of power is that they have an audience. Part of the reason many people died in America during the pandemic was due to the Trump administration playing it down.
It made many of their followers less careful. This is the same water that Rand Paul is treading on. Another issue with all of this is that it undermines those that keep us safe. If science is no longer trusted, we are in grave danger.
