MP Sir Gavin Alexander Williamson was born on 25 June 1976 in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. He was educated at Raincliffe School, Scarborough Sixth Form College, and the University of Bradford. He served on the North Yorkshire County Council from 2001 to 2005 and lost the 2005 elections in the run for Blackpool North and Fleetwood.
Williamson was elected as MP for South Staffordshire Conservative in the 2010 general elections. He has held numerous government positions which include being Parliamentary Private Secretary in David Cameron’s second government, secretary of state for transport, Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Prime Minister in 2013, Chief Whip from 2016 to 2017 in the Theresa May administration, Secretary of State for Defense and Secretary of State for Education before PM Johnson reshuffled his cabinet.
