Jeremy Paul Wright was born on 24 October 1972 in Tauton, Somerset. Both his parents were teachers and this was very influential in making him an academic. MP Wright was educated at Taunton School and Trinity School in New York City, and attained a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Exeter. In his practice, he specialized in criminal law before being elected to parliament in 2005. His first election involved a seat of Rugby and Kenilworth, and in 2010, he retained the newly formed Kenilworth and Southam constituency.
He previously held government posts which include Opposition Whip (2007), Government Whip (2010-2012), and holding the office of Lord Commissioner of the Treasury.
