The term ‘alpha male’ is traced back to the 1930s, and it has always pointed to a more dominating figure in society who is viewed as the cut above the rest. It refers to an exemplary individual who can inspire others to be like him. Alpha males, also referred to as ‘real men’, seem to possess all the characteristics that most men can only dream of. They define what it means to be a man and as examples to inspire “beta” males. This article will discuss the alpha male traits.

They have greater access to power, money, and mates, which they gain through physical prowess, intimidation, and domination” [Source].

In terms of relationships, various sources argue that “Alpha men are attracted to their opposite: the feminine female. Alpha men love women who wear dresses, heels and take pride in their appearance”.

The first characteristic is that they are keenly aware of their status. This kind of status is found in society in which an alpha male has to be found at the top and be respected by many people. He should also be respectful to everyone, especially the opposite gender. 

The second trait is that alpha males tend to be good looking in terms of their physical appearance. Alpha males are indeed known to be very attractive to the eyes and described as handsome. These males are also seen as influential leaders and exist at the top of their status hierarchies. They are natural leaders who demonstrate leadership abilities without issue or struggle. When a group is formed, the alpha male asserts himself as the leader. When he makes a point, people are reassured.

Confidence and high self-esteem form the backbone of all alpha males. Alpha males “use body language to appear larger than life”, and the way they carry themselves paints a picture of confidence. Are Alpha Males Born or Developed Over Time?

Alpha Males’ characteristics and traits can be developed over time. The environment and the people that an alpha male surrounds himself with will help him develop his skills further. For example, If he is around other alpha males, he will learn to be a better leader.

Alpha males are always looking to be the best in everything they do. They are very competitive and want to be the top dog in every situation. This doesn’t mean that they are aggressive, but they always strive to be the best. Tim Notke said, “hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard”. They are also very decisive and know how to get things done. There are innate qualities of leadership such as curiosity, resiliency and empathy.
