The United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade. This decision has caused an outcry worldwide, as many people feel that America is setting a dangerous precedent for handling abortion rules. This decision was not made in the best interests of women. It will likely result in more abortions taking place illegally and unsafely.
Banning Abortion Will Only Stop People From Having Safe Abortions
The supreme court’s decision to overturn roe v wade allows states to ban abortions. In the event that abortion may be prohibited in a particular state. Women may be forced to undergo dangerous and illegal procedures, which could put women’s lives at risk. Alternatively, women will have to travel to states where abortion is legal. This can be quite expensive, and not all women will have access to it. The laws never prevent abortion, they never have, and they never will. All they prevent is safe abortion.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that hundreds of women die in the United States each year due to avoidable causes linked to pregnancy. If access to abortion is restricted further, preventable maternal deaths will continue to rise.
How Leaders Reacted?
US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen stated, “eliminating the rights of women to make decisions about when and whether to have children would have very damaging effects on the economy and would set women back decades…. In many cases, abortions are of teenage women, particularly low-income and often Black, who aren’t in a position to be able to care for children, have unexpected pregnancies. It deprives them of the ability to continue their education and later participate in the workforce.”
Biden stated that the Supreme Court’s decision was a “tragedy,” calling it “cruel,” and stating that it takes America back 150 years.
Kamala Harris said, “Millions of women in America will go to bed tonight without access to the health care and reproductive care that they had this morning, without access to the same health care or reproductive health care that their mothers and grandmothers had for 50 years,”
French President Emmanuel Macron’s party members will submit a bill to make abortion rights part of the country’s constitution. Marie-Pierre Rixain, a member of parliament, said that a constitutional law would cement abortion rights for future generations. “What occurred abroad should not occur in France,” she added.
At a ‘Save America’ rally Mary Miller, a US Republican congresswoman representing Illinois, said, “on behalf of all the Maga patriots in America, I wanted to thank you for the historic victory for white life in the Supreme Court yesterday.”
Why Would some States Ban Abortion?
It is hard to understand why abortion would be illegal when it has been proven to be a safe medical procedure. One of the most common reasons for banning abortion is that it is “murder.” However, there is an argument that abortion is not murder, as it does not involve taking a life that has already been born. Others say that life begins at conception, the moment a sperm cell fertilizes an egg cell, which begins the process of cell division that creates a human.
According to religious groups, abortion is morally wrong. Pope Francis stated, “Abortion is murder. Those who perform abortions kill. All organs start to develop in the third week after conception, often even before the mother becomes aware (of being pregnant). Scientifically, it’s a human life. Period. However, many religions also teach that it is wrong to force a woman to have a child against her will. In addition, abortion is often seen as a way to end an unwanted pregnancy, which can result from rape or incest.
It is important to remember that a woman’s right to choose what happens to her own body should be respected. This includes the right to have an abortion. While some people may disagree with this decision, it is ultimately up to the woman to make the choice that is best for her.
